Storage of Color
Storage has been brought to the fore at the BBC’s new premises at Salford Quays. Extensive specification of Bisley products in a wide array of eye-catching colors ensures that storage on-site is very visibly at the heart of the flexible working practices being introduced to the 2,300 employees based at the site.
The BBC occupies three buildings at MediaCityUK. A large proportion of employees work flexibly and are encouraged to move around and make use of different areas. Employees don’t have allocated desks, with personal storage provided by banks of lockers rather than pedestals.
The 300 Bisley MySpace™ lockers are among some of the most visually arresting elements of the workplace design. Arranged in banks, the lockers feature a seemingly random array of door colors, delivering an extremely vibrant zone for personal storage.
A key issue for Bisley was ensuring that the lockers’ post slots – allowing mail to be delivered to employees – perfectly matched the colors of the doors, with a centrally placed photo holder to allow easy identification.
Additional workplace storage is provided by Bisley LateralFile™ drawer units and cupboards, again manufactured in a multitude of door and drawer front colors, predominantly in shades of green and pink, with different combinations for each building.
LateralFile™ units were specified in different configurations ranging from single-height drawers in 800mm and 1100mm widths to six-high drawer units for CD storage. A variety of cupboards were also supplied with heights of 1.2 and 1.9m. The single-height drawers are finished with an upholstered seat pad in charcoal with contrasting buttons, providing additional ad hoc seating for users.
Bisley’s products support a radical new storage strategy for staff moving to the new facility at Salford Quays, with a dramatic reduction in the volume of storage compared to previous premises. This was the result of an audit process which resulted in cutting storage from eight linear metres per person to 0.5 linear metres.
